International Women's Day 2023 - Q&A

March 8, 2023

Today, March 8, we are proud to celebrate International Women’s Day, a global awareness campaign that aims to celebrate the achievement of women all over the world. This year’s International Women’s Day theme, #EmbraceEquity, is a call to get the world talking about why equal opportunities aren't enough. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action.

This year, we carried out a quick Q&A session with some of our women in leadership roles, who share their thoughts on their inspirations and what motivates them.

Jean Walton

A: My first day at Turas Nua was the 12th October 2015

Q: What are you passionate about?

A: I feel passionate about helping people both in work and in my personal life where possible. I love music of all genres, having the craic, pints of Guinness, dogs, cats and animals in general and nature.

Q:Who inspires you?

A: People who are resilient, people who take action to improve, grow and educate themselves, people who don’t give up in the face of adversity, people who care about others.

Q: What is your favourite part of your job?

A: Teamwork plays a huge part in how we achieve success, and for me, this is a very rewarding aspect of our work and the culture of the business. Sharing knowledge, insights, experience, means we are all learning new things from each other every day. Interacting with people from across all levels of the business provides challenge, opportunities, and fun (especially when we get to celebrate together doing crazy things like running around Kilkenny pretending to be David Attenborough (amongst other things) and you’re on the winning tea...yeaaa! 😊

Q: What does International Women's Day mean to you?

A: The International Women's Day theme for 2023 related to embracing not just equality, but also embracing equity. What this means to me is that women in business should not only be treated on an equal basis as far as salary and other benefits are concerned, we should also have the ability to access resources and tools that help us to achieve success in a way that suits the person on the basis of their individual needs, which may or may not be the same for everyone. Thus removing the barriers that get in the way of people's ability to thrive.

The European Disability Forum (2023 ) indicates that only 32% of people with disabilities are in work, compared to the EU average of 51%.
